The paintings are sectioned in three categories: the Meditative, the Pictural and the Classical Period. You could also define them as Modern, Pre-Modern and Classical.

Brief comment about these different periods:

"Classical paintings are representations of a peaceful world"
"Pictural works please the senses"
"The Mechelse School brings a refreshing joy for life"
"Impressionist paintings posess atmosphere and depth"
"Meditative works encourage contemplation"
"The abstract paintings invite new ideas and visions"

Some technical information:

  • the medium is oil with Venetian turpentine

  • the carrier is canvas on wedge wood

  • the technique is Flemish (17th century Rubens)

  • transparent red  - the uncovered or recovered white canvas are the main actors

Engravings

Postcards

Each winter, Edwig makes a series of postcards based on his paintings. The subject is a mix of well known and more hidden places in Mechelen, that have beauty and tradition as a common base.
